Cholesterol is produced in the liver. It can also be ingested through diet. Cholesterol is a waxy substance similar in appearance to ear wax -- yummy! Optimum levels of good cholesterol prevent some types of brain disorders. Cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes and maintains the fluid balance in the cells. Cholesterol is an essential component of bile.
So there is good, bad and really ugly cholesterol. Today, unfortunately I talk to an overwhelming number of people that have high cholesterol of all ages and sizes. I once counselled a 14 year old boy with high cholesterol! What's the deal with that? All I can say to that one was diet, diet, diet and then there was the diet! Everyone so focuses on lowering the bad, most people don't even realize there is good cholesterol and how important it is, it's not just important, but essential!
Despite Cholesterols bad reputation, it is an absolute to the function of the human body. Unnecessarily lowering good cholesterol below optimal levels can cause detrimental effects on the body.
Serum Cholesterol levels below 160 are considered sub-optimal (people with sub-optimal Cholesterol levels have a greater incidence of Strokes, Lung Ailments, some types of Cancer and Alcoholism).
The standard range for Serum Cholesterol should be between 180 - 220. Borderline high would be 200 - 239. And anything above 240, HELLO. You better get on the ASAP. Bottom line is, when it comes to cholesterol we need balance! Too much is not just toxic, but can be deadly. The human body has a daily requirement of 1 gram of Cholesterol, the body uses it to make our hormones, so without cholesterol you can be a hormonal mess!!!
Now, when your doctor gave you that little white piece of paper to take to the pharmacist to get your prescription, did he tell you, you need cholesterol to make your hormones, or did he give you a prescription for hormone replacement after you knocked them out with the cholesterol drug??? There's a better way!

Ok, well, I don't know what you've done for your cholesterol but probably some of the same things we just heard. Now, let's really get to the good stuff!
