The controversy on sweeteners is absolutely overwhelming!
So I decided to bring you the ugly truth!
Today we are going to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly!
The good
Stevia is an herb in the chrysanthemum family, which grows wild in parts of Paraguay and Brazil and has also been successfully cultivated commercially in Uruguay, Central America, the US, Israel, Thailand and China. It can be processed into powder form, which can be used like table sugar, or into a liquid extract.
It is not a new discovery, cutting edge, nor is it dangerous in any way. It has been used for hundreds of years and in most recent years is now proving to be beneficial with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
It has zero calories, zero grams of sugar and tastes great!
Honey has been used since the beginning of time! Not only does it taste great, it has many medicinal benefits.
Turbinado unprocessed sugar cane
Barley Malt excellent as a sweetener, used in our Creations Bounty.
Black Strap Molasses excellent source of minerals
Sucralose in studies on rodents given the equivalent of 1500 soft drinks per day, no cancer-causing effects were found.
There are many others but these are the most common!
The BAD~~~
Sorbitol, mannitol, and lactitol are made from a sugar alcohol base. They commonly cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal side effects.
Mycoprotein is a fungus based sweetener. It has been shown that up to 90% of the cases studied had gastrointestinal discomfort.
Most likely due to the fact that it is a fungus and the mycoprotein feeds the fungus.
Saccharin After a Canadian study in 1977 saccharin was connected to bladder cancer in rats. The FDA proposed a ban which was blocked by congress.
High Fructose Corn Syrup takes 32% of your fat burning ability and makes it sluggish which makes you gain weight! In one study it is said that since the 1970s when HFCS was introduced our belts have expanded by 250%.
The UGLY~~~
