Blood Pressure Show
Well, where are you in the blood pressure world? Are you high, low or just right??? Unfortunately way too many people I talk to these days are on the high side and some even dangerously high! In fact, more than 50% of people over the age of 65 in the USA are plagued with high blood pressure, and high blood pressure has increased 30% over the last decade in the US. The proportion of the world's adult population with high blood pressure is predicted to increase from a quarter to a third by the year 2025, totaling over one billion, conclude authors of a study published in the prestigious Lancet Journal.
High blood pressure is the leading risk factor for mortality and increases a person's risk of cardiovascular disease and kidney disease.
What Is Blood Pressure? It’s the force exerted by the Blood against the walls of the Blood Vessels, caused by Heart contractions forcing a constant volume of Blood around a closed system. Systolic Blood Pressure results from Heart contraction of its Ventricles. Systolic Blood Pressure is more important for determining Cardiovascular Disease risk than Diastolic Blood Pressure. Diastolic Blood Pressure results from the resting stage of the Heart's rhythm. Normal average systolic/diastolic Blood Pressure in a healthy adult of average size and weight is 120/80.
So, what’s causing so many people to have high blood pressure and what can we do about it? Today on Alternative Health we’re going to get to the root of High blood pressure issues! The Bible says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. Well, after today’s show, you’re going to have knowledge on how to deal with your high blood pressure! And right after this we’re going to get started!
Why do so many people have high blood pressure? Well, let’s cover some of the things that can cause blood pressure to soar!
How about Caffeine? Yikes…nobody wants to hear that, but yes, there is research that shows that caffeine is linked to high blood pressure in some cases.
And if that isn’t enough, studies show that Excessive consumption of Simple Sugars can cause Hypertension. Sucrose being one of them. It increases Blood Pressure - and therefore can contribute to the development of Hypertension.
Free Radicals, that is cancer causing agents cause constriction of the Blood Vessels and can therefore cause Hypertension.
Excess production or release of Adrenaline increases Blood Pressure. So if you’re always on go and stressed to the max…Guess what? Blood pressure will be moving on up in some of you! And excessive production/release of Cortisol can cause Hypertension. So we’re back to the stress thing…I think we have a theme going here!
And what about blood sugar levels…if you’re a high carb craving Elevated Insulin level kinda person chances are you’re gonna have Hypertension.
And, oh, those yummy Trans Fatty Acids, like chips, ice cream, junk food, if they have transfats they will cause a chain reaction that will raise Blood Pressure. And once you eat too many trans fats, and raise your triglycerides, you guessed it, Hypertension.
And what about tap water??? Studies show Excessive consumption of Chlorine causes Hypertension. And maybe you’re drinking tap water because you ate too much Table Salt (Sodium Chloride) which is often blamed for hypertension but the real “culprit” is Chlorine (Chloride) and not Sodium.
Lead accumulation can cause Hypertension. Have you sucked on any pencils recently?
Excessive Serotonin, a brain chemical, can increase Blood Pressure. Now I do quit a bit of neurotransmitter testing and most people have low serotonin but what happens to people taking meds to raise those levels can go the other direction and end up out of the ball park and then have high blood pressure as well as a brain chemical imbalance.
And then one thing I’ve never been concerned with which is obvious since I have 8 kids is the Oral Contraceptive Pill, it can cause Hypertension (due to the Synthetic Estrogens and Progestins that are constituents of "the pill" increasing the body's production of certain enzymes which in turn causes high blood pressure.
Prednisone causes Hypertension in some people.
Long term usage of Antidepressants can increase Blood Pressure due to their effects on the nervous system.
Tobacco Smoking increases the risk of Hypertension - by causing constriction of the Blood Vessels (due to Nicotine). As well as makes you have bad breath.
Now, stay with me because I’m not just talking problems on today’s show, I’m giving answers.
Ok, I’m back with very real answers for a very real problem. I think it’s more than obvious that stress and diet are the major culprits in high blood pressure leading to hypertension. So if what’s on your fork and how you lead your life are causing it, let’s start there and do some digging and reverse the blood pressure curse with good foods!
Foods that actually lower blood pressure are things like Kelp, yeah kelp. Hypertension patients who consume Kelp experience significant decreases in Blood Pressure without any side effects, that’s sea weed, in case you didn’t know. Cod, Herring, Hey, we have a water theme going…and when Hypertension patients were fed Mackerel daily for two weeks, dramatic reductions in Blood Pressure were actually observed. And Salmon, one of my favorites!!! And even tuna, lowers blood pressure, Albacore is preferable. Ok, enough fish already. What about some fruit? Yeah, Bananas lower Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients primarily due to their high Potassium content. And then there’s the little cumquat that will lower Blood Pressure. And again one of my favorites, Watermelon.
Oats and brown rice lower Blood Pressure and something I actually like occasionally, is Wheat Grass which lowers Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients.
And this is cool, did you know Allspice lowers Blood Pressure! And you thought it was only for Thanksgiving.
And how about this one, Dill weed reputedly helps to lower Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients. And because of that I’m giving you my tuna and dill salad recipe, it’s delicious!
And instead of using those processed to death sweeteners which raise your blood pressure use Stevia which actually lowers Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients.
In one study, the ingestion of one dosage of Stevia caused systolic Blood Pressure to fall by approximately 9.5% and usage of Stevia for 30 days caused a decrease in both systolic and diastolic Blood Pressure. Hello, you need to get a clue and make the switch to stevia.
Teas (especially Green Tea) (and most effective when consumed immediately after a meal) can significantly lower Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients. Now that’s unsweetened tea unless sweetened with stevia.
And then most of you probably know but I’ll tell you again, research shows Olive Oil reduces Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients.
And then there’s the famous Celery Seed, which lowers Blood Pressure in 85% of Hypertension patients. Did you hear what I saie? 85% And Celery can lower Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients by 12% - 14%, even at low doses! So eat some celery sticks…and while you’re at it eat sesame seeds which also lower Blood Pressure.
And then to keep blood pressure down and the vampires away, eat lots of Garlic! Or take it 1,500 - 3,000 mg of standardized Garlic extract, and according to research will lower your blood pressure. For example in one study, 40% of hypertensive subjects experienced a reduction of 20 points or more in their Blood Pressure after 7 days of Garlic consumption. And by the way, Aged Garlic Extract is better. And then while we’re on the stinky breath subject, Onions reduce Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients. And in this case the onions are actually better raw when it comes to lowering blood pressure.
And then the small but oh so powerful Green Pea. Studies show, will lower your blood pressure and if you have a spinach and cucumber salad along with it, you’re sure to beat the high blood pressure game!
OK, enough on foods…onto fun stuff, what about exercise? Research shows Regular Exercise often permits persons afflicted with severe Hypertension to reduce their dosages of Pharmaceutical Drugs. In one study, human Hypertension patients riding a stationary bike for 15 minutes per day for eight months were able to reduce their prescribed dosages of medication by an average of 40%, while their blood pressure fell to pre-exercise levels. This regime also reversed Enlargement of the Heart in Hypertension patients. And Aerobic Exercise lowers Blood Pressure (by an average of 10 points in Hypertension patients. Not to mention you lower stress, have more energy, feel better, look better, and think better! You just need to do it! What goes on the fork and in your mouth and what you do with that body of yours will determine how you feel on an on going basis! So walk, run, bicycle, move that body, and while we’re on the subject of what you put on and in your body, are you drinking enough water?
Did you know the Kidneys are partially responsible for the regulation of Blood Pressure, what are you doing to your kidneys? Too much coffee, too much chlorinated water, too many sugary drinks? Could your kidneys be in overload mode? How are your kidneys supposed to regulate your blood pressure when they are spending all their time trying to dump the junk you’re taking in??? Stop it!!! Studies show Continual, long-term Water deficiency (i.e. Dehydration) is a contributory factor in some cases of Hypertension. I’ll be right back…
Ok, you’re changing your diet, you’re going to exercise a few minutes a day, you’re looking better and feeling better! And did I tell you exposure to sunlight in moderation helps to reduce blood pressure in hypertension patients? Well, I’ve told you now, so go get a tan! Now, what do you supplement with to put the icing on the cake?
Capsaicin directly reduces systolic Blood Pressure. Specific amino acid supplements lower Blood pressure by facilitating the body’s production of Nitric Oxide. Psyllium inhibits the ability of excessive Sodium to cause Hypertension. Supplemental Melatonin lowers Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients as well as boosting your immune system and making you sleep better, American Ginseng and Phosphatidylserine and DHA helps to lower and prevent high blood pressure. Essential fatty acids like those in fish help to lower Blood Pressure by promoting vasodilation.
Hypertension can occur as a result of Magnesium deficiency and Magnesium supplementation (300 - 600 mg per day) lowers both systolic and diastolic Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients who are deficient in Magnesium. Potassium lowers Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients: Populations with the highest average Potassium consumption have the lowest incidence of Hypertension. Selenium (50 - 100 micrograms per day) lowers Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients.
And one of my favorites for lowering blood pressure is Co Q 10 (200 - 300 mg per day) normalizes Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients by restoring the normal Sodium:Potassium ratio, not to mention aids in lowering cholesterol as well.
In human trials, an average daily dosage of 225 mg of Coenzyme Q10 per day caused a reduction in average systolic blood pressure from 159 to 147 mm/Hg and an reduction in average diastolic blood pressure from 94 to 85 mm/Hg within three to four months of initiating supplementation 39% of Hypertension patients are found to be deficient in Coenzyme Q10.
Coenzyme Q10 stabilizes heartbeat and prevents atherosclerosis in the Arteries. Coenzyme Q10 improves Blood Circulation and assists the Heart to function normally in the presence of Blood Clots. Coenzyme Q10 alleviates Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and most CHF patients are found to exhibit a Coenzyme Q10 deficiency. Coenzyme Q10 improves the condition of 91% of Heart Attack patients within 30 days of initial Coenzyme Q10 supplementation. Coenzyme Q10 is highly beneficial for persons about to undergo Heart Surgery. In human trials, an average daily dosage of 225 mg of Coenzyme Q10 per day caused a reduction in average systolic blood pressure from 159 to 147 mm/Hg and a reduction in average diastolic blood pressure from 94 to 85 mm/Hg within three to four months of initiating supplementation.
39% of Hypertension patients are found to be deficient in Coenzyme Q10. CoQ10 not only lowers Blood pressure and cholesterol but improves the Heart's ability to survive and produce energy in Hypoxia which is a limited Oxygen situation such as: High Altitudes, Clogged Arteries, situations Where Blood Clots affect the flow of oxygenated Blood to Cardiac Muscle, When Blood has high Fat content and During Angina. Coenzyme Q10 improves the function of the Left Ventricle of the Heart and normalizes Heart function in Mitral Valve Prolapse patients. Coenzyme Q10 helps to prevent Strokes and helps to prevent mortality (death) in people who have experienced a Stroke. See why it’s my favorite?
